China’s Book Market Performance in January
Book sales in brick-and-mortar shops were down 1.85% from the previous month and 43.02% year-on-year. Whereas online sales rose 4.64% compared to the previous month and fell 20.62% year-on-year. As a result of the animation and TV series adaptations, the "Three Bodies" series remain bestsellers of the month.
The 35th Beijing Book Fair Hits Record High
The 35th Beijing Book Fair closed on February 26, with the most enthusiastic exhibitors and the largest scale of participation ever recorded.
According to the data released by the Organizing Committee, there were 2,793 on-site booths, an increase of 9.1% over the previous one. A total of 710 exhibitors showcased nearly 400,000 titles. 345 cultural events were held during the 3 days session. And for the first time, a voice was raised for the protection of copyright in publishing.
There were more than 120,000 types of library titles on 645 displays on site, and the turnover of library books at this year's fair reached RMB 96 million. According to statistics, the number of exhibitors and visitors on site exceeded 100,000. Several live broadcast booths were set up at the exhibition hall for new books to meet with readers online once released.
China Release the Top 10 Internet Infringement and Piracy Cases in 2022
On February 27, the top 10 internet piracy cases of the "2022 Net Sword" special action were released at the main forum of the 7th China Internet Copyright Protection and Development Conference held in Chengdu.
In 2022, China’s National Copyright Administration, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, and the State Internet Information Office jointly organized the "2022 Net Sword" special operation to combat internet piracy and infringement. Many major cases of internet infringement and piracy were investigated and handled. To promote the effectiveness of the campaign and give full play to the role of typical cases as models and guides, the National Copyright Administration and four other departments released the top ten cases of the "2022 Net Sward" campaign.
With a Forecast Loss of nearly RMB 300 Million, COL Starts Speculating in AIGC
On February 16, China’s digital publisher COL signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Beijing Lanzhou Technology, saying that both parties recognize that AIGC has significant development potential and intend to expand cooperation in this area. In the announcement, COL pointed out that it has a large amount of genuine content and business areas highly compatible with AIGC technology, and Lanzhou Technology has strong technical advantages in AI-generated content, both parties will further expand the application scenarios of AIGC technology based on their respective advantageous resources, explore a new paradigm of AIGC content creation, build a domestic independent and controllable AIGC ecological capacity, and promote industry development.
