Chinese Academic Literature Data Service Provider CNKI Fined RMB 87.6 Million for Monopoly
On December 26, 2022, nearly seven months after the General Administration for Market Regulation (GAMR) of China filed a case against CNKI for allegedly committing monopolistic acts, and by Articles 57 and 59 of the Anti-Monopoly Law, GAMR made an administrative penalty decision, ordering CNKI to stop the illegal acts and imposing a fine of 5% of its sales of RMB 1.752 billion in China in 2021, totaling RMB 87.6 million. At the same time, the GAMR required CNKI to carry out comprehensive rectification around the release of exclusive cooperation, reduce the burden on users, and strengthen internal compliance management to promote the standardized and healthy innovation development of the industry.
China's 2022 the "Most Beautiful Books" Announced
On December 8, 2022, the results of the "Most Beautiful Books" Contest were announced in Shanghai. 25 books from 23 publishers from all over China, including Birds and Seasons, Tofu, and Beiqiao Boat Boxing, were awarded the title of the "Most Beautiful Books" this year. Online Literature Oversea Sales Exceed RMB 2.9 Billion with 179 Million Users
On January 5, 2023, the 2nd Internationalization Forum on Convergent Development in Publishing was held in Beijing, the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association released the 2021 China Online Literature Going Overseas Report. The report shows that as of 2021, the market size of China's online literature going overseas reached RMB 2.905 billion, an increase of 75.32% year-on-year.
As of 2021, there were 179 million oversea online literature users, up 79.22% year-on-year, with a higher proportion of female users. At the same time, oversea online literature is entering a stable period, the report shows that the proportion of regular users of more than three years is higher, 65.07% of users read online literature every day, 90% of users are reading for entertainment and escape, 20% of users are reading for knowledge, and 10% of users have demands for social needs. In addition, more than 51.89% of oversea users are willing to pay for content, payment by subscription is also getting more popular.
