Shulin Wu was born in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China in 1954. He is the Executive Vice President of the Publishers Association of China, adjunct/part-time Professor of Nanjing University, Wuhan University and Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication.

He was previously the Vice Minister of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (SARRPFT) from April 2013 to June 2014. Before that, he was the Vice Minister of General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) from October 2004 to April 2013.

He worked in the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as the Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Reforming Office from 2001 to 2004. In the previous twenty years, he worked as an Official, Deputy Director, Director, Deputy Director General, then Director General at the Publishing Bureau of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.

He worked as a worker and then a dispatcher at Jiangsu Coking Factory for eight years before he entered Nanjing University in 1978.

He graduated from Nanjing University in 1982, majoring in economics. He was the senior fellow of Harvard University in 2010.

Markus Dohle,As CEO of Penguin Random House since July 1, 2013, Markus Dohle leads the world's largest trade book publisher, with operations in 20 countries and sales into over 100 territories. He oversees Penguin Random House’s worldwide publishing divisions, whose 250 editorially independent imprints publish 15,000 new adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction titles annually in English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. Each year, Penguin Random House sells more than 700 million print, audio and e-books across the globe.

Mr. Dohle has been one of the world’s most vocal proponents of the power of reading and books to connect and change lives. Under Mr. Dohle, Penguin Random House’s mission is to foster a universal passion for reading by partnering with authors to help create stories and communicate ideas that inform, entertain, and inspire, and to connect them with readers across the globe. Mr. Dohle’s entire professional life has been devoted to the support and service of authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers. Before the merger of Penguin and Random House in 2013, Mr. Dohle headed Random House, where he led the company’s transition to digital publishing while maintaining its world market leadership in print books. As a combined company, Penguin Random House now has more than 100,000 new and backlist books available digitally, and over 100,000,000 eBooks were sold worldwide in 2015.

As a member of the Bertelsmann Executive Board, Mr. Dohle and his fellow Board colleagues are responsible for setting the strategic direction for one of the world’s foremost media companies. He began his career with Bertelsmann in 1994, rising quickly to several subsequent leadership positions.

Additionally, Mr. Dohle is Vice Chairman of the Association of American Publishers, and also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Book Foundation, and on the International Advisory Committee of the Atlantic Council.

Shuguang Gong, male, Han nationality, born in April ,1959, is a native of Lixian County in Hunan province. He is a member of the CPC, senior editor, and graduated from Shandong Normal University with a master degree. Currently he serves as Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Hunan Publishing Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd., and Chairman of the Board of China South Publishing & Media Group Co., Ltd..

Previously, he served as the first Deputy Director of Theoretical Research Department in Hunan Provincial Literary & Art Federation and Executive Editor in Chief of the magazine “Theory and Creation”, Director of the General Office of Hunan Provincial Literary & Art Federation, Executive Vice General Manager of Hunan Dolton International Hotel, Director and Secretary of the Party Branch of Hunan Newspaper and Journal Publication Service Center, Proprieter and Chief Editor of Xiaoxiang Morning Herald, and Vice General Manager of Hunan Publishing Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd..

From November of 2004 to August of 2007, he was Deputy Party Secretary, Deputy Chairman and Executive Vice General Manager of Hunan Publishing Investment Holding Group, and the Proprieter of Xiaoxiang Morning Herald.

From August of 2007 till now, he is Chairman of Hunan Publishing Investment Holding Group, and Chairman of China South Publishing & Media Group since December of 2008.

Successively he has won many honors and awards, namely Top 10 Reviewer of Hunan, Top 10 National Media Innovator, Top 10 National Newspaper Leading Figure, Top 100 National Great Publishing Entrepreneur, Talent in the “Four Leading Groups” of National Publicity and CulturalSystem, Chinese Government Award for Publishing (Great Publishing Person), China Economic Person of the Year in 2011, National Labor Medal, Advanced Individual in National Reform of Cultural Institutions, Deputy to the 12thNPC, Director Member of the Culture and Media Committee of China Association of Public Companies.

Jiankang Zhang, born in May of 1963 and a native of Suzhou, is the Chairman of both Phoenix Publishing & Media Group (PPMG) and Phoenix Publishing & Media Inc, After graduation from university, Mr. Zhang had taken various positions respectively with the Municipal Government of Suzhou, Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CPC, Ministry of Radio, Film & Television, and Ministry of Culture. Before joining PPMG in January of 2016, he had been Director General, since 2012, of Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Radio, Film & Television, which later merged with the provincial administration for publishing as Jiangsu Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film & Television. He also serves as the president of Jiangsu Provincial Publishing House.

Having long been engaged in culture, Mr. Zhang has great expertise in publishing. He champions the idea of BOOKS FIRST AND FOREMOST. He takes it for granted that a publisher should publish as many quality books as possible to meet the increasingly diversified needs of the people. As the chairman of such a large publishing conglomerate as PPMG and a passionate publisher himself, Mr. Zhang considers more concentration and commitment to book business the first business priority of the group and its social responsibility as well.

Jian Tong was born in 1961 and finished his college education in his early years. Tong, who was previously deputy director of General Office of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and deputy secretary general of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, now serves as the party secretary, chairman and president of Zhejiang Publishing United Group. Tong participated in management work pertaining to publicity culture, macro economy as well as agriculture and rural areas. He once was the vice chairman of Secretary Society of Zhejiang Province and served concurrently as the vice chairman of Industrial Economic Association of Zhejiang Province. In 2015, he was awarded as cultural expert and included in the list of “Four Groups of Talents” by thePublicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC. In the same year, again he was awarded as Top 10 publisher in China and nominated for China’s Top 10 leader of the year in culture industry.

After joining Zhejiang Publishing United Group in May, 2008, Tong put forward the idea that the group should persist in focusing on and reinforcing its main business, courageously bear the culturalresponsibility and steadfastly pursue enterprise development in an innovative way. Tong also presented his demand that the group should do its work in a pragmatic and innovative manner to adapt itself to changes and publish excellent books. Alexander Broich is the President of International for Cengage Learning, serving on the executive team and reporting to Michael Hansen, Chief Executive Officer. In this role, he is responsible for the growth and development of the company’s international operations.

Mr. Broich brings to Cengage Learning more than 20 years of corporate and operational senior-level management experience, specializing in building, growing and developing businesses in changing environments. He has a successful track record in setting up and growing new technology driven businesses, is skilled in strategic planning and marketing, and is familiar with intercultural business practices and communications.

Prior to joining Cengage Learning, Mr. Broich served as the President of International at Pearson Clinical and Talent Assessment for five years. At Pearson, he drove the international business to double-digit growth, while significantly increasing profitability and expanding into new territories. He led the strategy development and implementation of the conversion from traditional print assessments into digital solutions, and was a member of Pearson’s Innovation Board.

Earlier in his career, Broich was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Bertelsmann, Inc. for six years where he implemented development strategies in China, England, Germany and France, among other duties. He also held management positions with Bertelsmann Online Ltd., Health Online Services Multimedica, Bertelsmann AG, and Headwork Consulting.

Mr. Broich holds a PhD in Business Administration from Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He is based out of the Cengage Learning Boston, MA office.

David Hetherington, is Chief Operating Officer of Klopotek North America, Inc. Prior to joining Klopotek, Mr. Hetherington was most recently the Vice President of Academic Merchandising and Publishers Services for Baker & Taylor, the world’s largest wholesaler of books and entertainment products.

Prior to joining Baker & Taylor, Mr. Hetherington held senior positions in Operations and Finance with some of the publishing industry’s leading organizations including Simon & Schuster, Readers Digest, Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, and Columbia University Press as well as KPMG’s Media & Entertainment consulting practice.

Mr. Hetherington holds a BS from Thomas Edison College in business administration and accounting and an MBA in Corporation Finance from Farleigh Dickinson University. He is a frequent speaker at publishing industry events (such as the Publishers’ Forum in Berlin, organized by Klopotek) as well as regular contributor to Book Business Magazine.

Rüdiger Wischenbart, born in 1956 in Graz, Austria, is the founder of “Content and Consulting” (since 2003), and a writer specialized in culture, cultural industries, the global book markets, innovation in the book industry, literature, media, and communication.

Most recently, he researched and (co-) authored several reports on global publishing markets, notably the “Global eBook” report, the “Global Publishing Markets”, and the “Global Ranking of the Publishing Industry”, updated annually since 2007 (initiated by Livres Hebdo, France, and co-published by The Bookseller, UK, buchreport, Germany, PublishNews Brazil, and Publishers Weekly, US), which is at the core of a debate of industry leaders at the Frankfurt CEO panel discussion, moderated by Wischenbart with the editors of the partnering trade magazines.

Wischenbart co-authored the “Diversity Reports” 2016 (forthcoming), 2010, 2009 and 2008 mapping translation markets and cultures across Europe.

He serves as director for international affairs to BookExpo America and coordinates its “Global Market Forum”, and as Director for Publishers’ Forum in Berlin.

As a consultant, he regularly works for international platforms and institutions catering to the publishing industry, including, UNESCO and the European Commission.

He holds a PhD in German literature from the University of Graz, is lecturing at the University of Vienna, Austria, since 1987, and served as Director of Communication to the Frankfurt Book Fair (1998 to 2001).
