    《一个特殊时期的英人评华（1790-1820）（英文版）》比较深入广泛地考察了一个特殊时期英国人对中国的评价。而且，不是只考察几个著名人物的看法，而是考察了能够查阅到的几乎所有有关作者的看法。因此，本书能够做到比较全面地揭示当时英国人对中国的评价。本书的考察揭示了英国人评华时存在明显的不同看法，揭示了英国对中国评价的发展变化状况。这是不能通过简单考察几个著名人物的对华评价所能够发现或揭示的。

    张顺洪，中国社会科学院世界历史研究所所长，研究员，1983年武汉大学历史系毕业，获学士学位；1989年英国伦敦大学毕业，获历史学博士学位。1990年到世界历史研究所工作。主要研究领域为英帝国史、中英关系史。主要著作有：《大英帝国的瓦解》（张顺洪等著）、《英美新殖民主义》（合著）。代表性沦文有：《马戛尔尼和阿美士德对华评价与态度的比较》、《论英国的非殖民化》、《战后英国关于殖民地公职人员的政策》、《关于殖民主义史研究的几个问题》、《英属东非公职机构本土化初考》；英文论文有：'HistoricalAnachronism：The Qing Court's Perception of and Reaction to the Macartney Embassy'，‘British Imperialism and I）ecolonization：A Chinese Perspeetive’。
