Part One
Part Four
Part Five English Poems
Part Six

The Death of Distance
Is it true that the death of distance
brought the death of beauty?

Is it true that this is a penalty
from the unknown,
for the insatiable desires and greediness
of the humankind?

TOP书摘

These poems are of pristine clarity. Hauntingly deep, they work their way into the stormy, tortured heart of the human conditions of love and betrayal. Her words range from the concrete and specific inner life of being lost in a love maze to the most abstract sociological question of ecosystem and global survival. She transcends the dead language of social science and leaves us all with the question: What do we do?
—Dr. Michael M Loukinen, Professor of Sociology, Director Up North Films, Northern Michigan University

These delightful poems are full of feeling and compassion for those who struggle against adversity of one kind or another. I especially like “That Little Girl in Love”, an agonized lament for unrequited love. Dr. Yang is able to capture, in a few lines, complex emotions that play against one another, to bring you to an overwhelming question: what does it mean to be fully human? Although this volume may not contain the answers, it will bring you closer to that all-encompassing sense of fellowship that unites us all.
—Dr. Alfred DeMaris

This is a wonderful collection of “sociological poetry”, to use C. Wright Mills’ words. Harnessing the tension between sociology as a science and poetry as an art form, Professor Yang’s keen insights on social structures, individual agency, and human meanings leave no one untouched. Unafraid to feel and be transformed by her work, Professor Yang has a lot of sociological wisdom to share with scholars and laity alike in the form of creative and thought-provoking poems. A breath of fresh air.
—Dr. Gu?mundur Oddsson, Assistant Professor of Sociology
